Open House Weekend Set in Lakes of Savannah, Lakemont and West Ranch

Three Friendswood Development Company communities are among the newest to host open house weekends, where visitors can tour new and resale homes.

Lakes of Savannah, located just two miles from SH 288 in the Pearland area, Lakemont, located along the Westpark Tollway and Mason Road; and West Ranch located in the City of Friendswood - will all showcase a variety of new homes ready for move-in, decorated models and resale homes open with Realtors on site to answer questions.

The event, which began in Fairfield and has continued for years, is popular among residents and home shoppers because it gives them the opportunity to see the wide variety of homes available, talk to Realtors and new home sales professionals, and often talk to residents and find out why they are making these Friendswood Development Co. communities their home. Earlier this year, Friendswood Development Company’s north communities of Graystone Hills and Oakhurst at Kingwood joined in participating in open house events, and now its south and southwest communities will do the same.

>“This is a great opportunity for home shoppers to really learn a lot about Lakes of Savannah, Lakemont or West Ranch,” said Misty Watkins, Marketing Director for Friendswood Development Company’s south division. “Now, visitors to these locations can preview the newest builders, sections and model homes now open.”

The open house event will take place on Saturday April 10 and Sunday April 11. New homes are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.Resale homes are open from 1- p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday. Each community will have maps and information on all available homes and directions to new home sales offices.

Lakes of Savannah – Bunny Breakfast at Pearland Towne Center

Lakes of Savannah residents are welcome to bring their families and enjoy a special breakfast with the Easter Bunny on Saturday, April 3 from 10a.m. to 11 a.m. The special Easter event is being held at the Sparks Energy Pavilion in the heart of the Pearland Town Center outdoor shopping complex just minutes from the community!

Tickets for the event are only $5 and include pictures with the Easter Bunny and the kids can decorate their own 4 x 6 frame to place it in. The delicious breakfast menu consists of 2 warm pancakes, fluffy eggs, 2 sausage links and apple juice or coffee. And, the proceeds from the event will support the ministries of the local One Life Church.

Additional activities at the Sparks Energy Pavilion will be available until 1 p.m. including photos with the Easter Bunny, faced painting, balloon art, egg decorating, music, dancing and more. Lakes of Savannah Among Areas which Qualify for USDA Loans

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) now has loans available offering zero down, zero closing costs and 100 percent financing to buyers who qualify. Home buyers must also purchase in areas that are included in the loan program and Lakes of Savannah, located in the Pearland area, is among those locations that qualify.

Income requirements, family size and home price requirements are also included on the website at www.usda.gov . The site offers contact information as well as the opportunity to apply for the loans and more information.

Restrictions apply for these loans and Lakes of Savannah is not involved in mortgage lending or the USDA program and its loans. Interested consumers are encouraged to visit the website for more information and details.

Spring Forward for Daylight Saving Time: March 14

Each Spring, we move our clocks forward by one hour during the night in order to capture the convenience that extra light brings during the Spring and Summer seasons. Friendswood Development Company is reminding Lakes of Savannah residents to remember to do just that at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 14.

Daylight Saving Time actually affects you in more ways than simply confusing your schedule. By making the adjustment, we are allowing ourselves to use less energy in lighting our homes. This energy-saving orientation was the original intent of the U.S. when Daylight Saving Time was instituted during World War I and later when the length of Daylight Saving Time was standardized in 1966.

Pearland “Wheels & Waves” Benefit for Forgotten Angels

The spring break kickoff event “Wheels & Waves” will be held at Pearland Town Center on March 13th. This exciting event’s proceeds will benefit Forgotten Angels, a Pearland-based non-profit organization dedicated to the care of adults with developmental disabilities.

Events & Features

Fish-Out on the first day of the event starting at 10:00 a.m. Sports Authority fishing experts will be on hand to assist young fishermen bait, cast, hook, and unhook their fish. Anglers (children and adults) should bring poles, tackle and a cooler for their take-home catch, as a limited number of loaner poles and tackle will be available.

Inflatable Park
Food vendors
Live entertainment by Nash 3 and other local bands
Radio Disney will broadcast from Town Center Pavilion from noon until 2:00 p.m.

Alvin I.S.D Mustang Bayou Turtle Race

The 9th Annual Mustang Bayou Turtle Race took place on February 6, 2010 and was a huge success due to the great response from the community parents, students, ad teachers. The Alvin I.S.D. Education Foundation hosts the race each year, with this year’s funds reaching almost $50,000 in grants and scholarships.

A total of 9,587 turtles were adopted, an Lakes of Savannah’s own Manvel High School adopted the most turtles at $7,360, followed by Alvin High School’s $6,430 and Alvin Primary’s $4,300.

Pearland Man Runs Olympic Torch

While the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics [http://www.vancouver2010.com] will be nearing their close on Sunday, February 28th, the memory of running the Olympic torch is still fresh in the memory of Pearland, TX resident Ken Block.

This Olympic flame's trek was historically the longest, with runners placed in each of Canada's vast provinces. Block had the honor of carrying the flame 300 meters in St. Albert, Alberta, near the province's capital of Edmonton.

Block happened upon the honor due to his position at Aggreko [http://www.aggreko.com], a company that runs power cable for power and sound at high-profile events, including the Super Bowl, the presidential inauguration, and the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics - all projects Block has past worked on. As an Olympic affiliate, Aggreko was given 10 spots in the torch relay, and Block was nominated along with Kingwood resident George Walker.

A 61-year old father of three, Block was ecstatic and grateful to have participated, "It was unbelievable, the people and the spirit they showed during my run. I was a star for a short time."

Congratulations to Ken Block, a stellar representative of the Pearland community.
